THE LIVING ROOM — Bean has ascended the amplifier.

The household's decorated hero, who earlier this season "considered mounting a challenge before determining that the amp was too tall," has determined otherwise. At some point Sunday afternoon, without announcement, he cleared the Gallien-Krueger 4x10 cabinet, reached the Kustom head, and sat down on it — directly behind Atticus, who was already sitting there, and who has held the position as a hereditary throne since the bloodless overnight seizure that first put him up there.

The amplifier head is roughly the size of a loaf of bread laid on its side. It was not designed for one cat. It is currently hosting two.

ShatNews was on scene. A correspondent filming from the carpet narrated the moment as it unfolded, in what media analysts are already calling the network's finest live call:

"See, that's the black one's favorite spot to sit. And so the throne is being challenged as we speak." — ShatNews correspondent, live on scene (tape below)

The tape confirms the correspondent's account. For the full sixteen seconds, Bean shifts, repositions, rises, peers over the edge, and settles again, while Atticus remains in a tight loaf at the front of the head and does not turn around once. At no point does either party look at the other. At no point does either party leave.

THE LEGAL POSITION. Bean's office has not filed under the warmth doctrine, which analysts consider a notable choice given that Bean has now won three consecutive claims under it, including one against its author. A spokesperson explained that the amplifier was switched off at the time and was therefore "cold," meaning the claim rests on "occupancy alone," which Bean's office describes as "the older and more serious law."

Atticus's office, which spent the sunbeam proceedings arguing that the doctrine "was always understood to exclude flooring," has now pivoted to arguing that the throne is hereditary, that Bean is not an heir, and that "a second cat on the amplifier is, in a legal sense, not on the amplifier." Asked where Bean is, legally, the office said "behind it."

Bean is on it.

THE BASSIST. The household bass player, who has been playing standing up and unplugged since the original seizure, was briefed on the development and asked whether two cats on the amplifier improves or worsens his situation. "It's the same," he said. "It was already zero amplifiers. It's still zero amplifiers. There's just more cat on it."

THE CASTERS. Observers noted that Bean's earlier strategy — hold the base, wait, and exploit the cabinet's casters — has been quietly abandoned. His office now says the casters were "never the plan" and that the plan was "always to go up," adding that anyone who wrote otherwise "was reporting a different, lesser Bean."

ShatNews stands by its reporting.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT. Constitutional scholars reached at the food bowl describe the situation as unprecedented. "Hereditary thrones are not designed for two occupants," said one. "They're designed for one occupant and a lot of resentful people standing around the bottom. We now have zero people standing around the bottom and two cats pretending the other cat is a cushion."

A joint administration has not been announced. Neither has a transfer of power. Household sources describe the arrangement as "a standoff, but horizontal," and note that both cats have now been up there, together, for over an hour, and that this is the longest the two have cooperated on anything since the AI startup.

At press time, Atticus had not moved. Bean had not moved. The correspondent had stopped filming and was reportedly "thinking about the throne thing."
